"Travelers' Tales Love and Romance: True Stories of Passion on the Road" published by Travelers' Tales Guides, 1998 $17.95
Love & Romance is a collection of literary essays -- all true stories -- of love, lust, and romance encountered while traveling. They range from a tender story of how travel kept the spark in a 50-year marriage, to one woman's story of becoming engaged to a Fiji Island tribesman whose language she does not speak. You'll experience the tender connection forged between fellow travelers making their way together, as well as a honeymoon suddenly gone awry, threatening the life of a new marriage. Other stories follow travelers who face a firing squad together, rekindle love in a war-ravaged country, or stumble hilariously into a Japanese love hotel while simply looking for a clean bed for the night. Some stories are touching, others are frightening; all involve love in its many guises waiting to surprise and delight the unsuspecting traveler.

The first serious hardback book on spas, written at the very beginning of the nation's obsession with spas, covers more than 30 destination spas in detail. The descriptions are anecdotal, full of experiences, feelings, descriptions of spa meals and fitness classes. The material is now out of date, but it's an interesting read for a contemporary historical perspective on spas.
